Volunteer Training (Session 1 of 2)

Hospice needs volunteers to survive. We are always looking for caring people who have some time to donate. Some people volunteer once a month and some once a week. The schedules vary and we can always be flexible and let the volunteer choose when they can help us at the Hospice Home or at the patient’s home.

To be a Hospice volunteer, you must attend a 12 hour class which is broken into 2 segments. In July, we have a class that will be held on July 18th and July 20th. On the 18th, you will be in the orientation from 8:30-4:30. On Thursday, July 20th, you will only be in class from 1-4:30.

If you need to take the class on a Saturday, our next Saturday class will be offered Sept. 23rd and 30th from 9-3:00. These classes are very similar to a new employee orientation. If you have questions, please email or call, and I will be happy to answer your questions. My number is 336-264-9248 or dianne@hospiceac.org.

The volunteer chooses which area they want to volunteer……
*Some like to help at the Hospice Home, doing laundry, answering the phones, greeting visitors, and baking cookies. They also can help in the kitchen and assist with meal preparation.
*Some like to go to the patient’s home to sit for 2 or 3 hours to give the care giver a break and allow them to run errands or go to a doctor’s appointment for themselves.
*Some like to help file in the office or help with data entry.
*Volunteers are also needed at the Hospice store and you do NOT have to attend the volunteer training to help there.
*Men are needed to help on the pick-up crew. They are the ones who go out in the trucks to pick up donations that people want to give to our stores.
