Kids Path is a unique program for children and families. A wide range of medical services for children with serious and life-threatening conditions is provided, as well as counseling support to children who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

Any child ages 0-18 in our area with a life-threatening condition is eligible for Kids Path. Kids Path services are available beginning with diagnosis. Helping parents or guardians navigate the health care system is an important part of the Kids Path program.

Services for Children with Medical Needs
The Kids Path team partners with the child’s physician from the crisis of diagnosis through the many stages of the condition. The Kids Path team provides the following levels of care:

  • Support - includes counseling services, advocacy for the child and family, and helping arrange services
  • Health Care Support – services above along with nursing visits to monitor the child’s condition and volunteer services as needed
  • Home Health – regular nursing, counseling, therapist, and other visits as needed, along with aroound-the-clock on-cal availability
  • Hospice – for children with a life expectancy of months rather than years. A number of services are included along with on-call availability
Depending on the needs of the child and family, the following services are provided:
  • Medical director
  • Pediatric registered nurse
  • Volunteer
  • Occupational therapist
  • Counselor
  • Pediatric nursing assistant
  • Chaplain
  • Dietician
  • Pediatric social worker

Services for children and loved ones experiencing the loss of a loved one:

Individual support and counseling – Support is available for children and families affected by the serious illness of a loved one. Grief counseling is offered for children and adults who have experienced the death of someone close.

Support groups – Staff is available to implement or co-facilitate bereavement groups in schools.

Special events – Workshops and special events focus on issues such as coping with the holidays and using creative expression to facilitate healing. Our annual camp for bereaved children, Camp Pathfinder, is in summer each year; for more information, click here.

Kids Path also offers educational training and consultation to community groups wishing to learn more about children coping with illness, grief and loss as well as to community professionals working with children.

Financial support for Kids Path has been generously provided from individuals, businesses, churches and community fundraisers to help us care for all children who need us. Because of the community’s generosity, many Kids Path services are available at no charge. Call us at 336-532-0123 for more information.

Kids Path services are provided in our primary service area of Alamance, Caswell, eastern Guilford and western Orange counties. Kids Path services for children in other areas may be accessed at www.kidspath.com. Kids Path is a licensed provider of Kids Path, which was founded in Greensboro, NC.
