Key Management Staff
Executive Director: Peter Barcus, MHA
Peter has served in hospice management positions since 1986, and first began as executive director of Hospice of Alamance Caswell in 1990. He holds a masters degree in health administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Director of Hospice: Sandra Gibson, RN, CHPN
Sandra first began her health care career as a nursing assistant and has been progressively promoted to her current position as the senior hospice clinical manager. She began at what was then called Hospice of Alamance County in 1989; she holds her nursing degree from Rockingham Community College and is a nationally certified hospice and palliative nurse.
Medical Director: Dr. Beth Hodges, CHPM
Dr. Beth, as she’s affectionately known, holds both her undergraduate and medical school degrees from Wright State in Dayton, Ohio. After her residency at Riverside Regional in Newport News, she and her physician husband, Cisco, established a family practice in Asheboro. In addition, Dr. Beth has experience in hospital, hospice and nursing home settings; she’s also on the adjunct faculty at the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Beth is board certified in both family practice and hospice and palliative medicine.
Chief Financial Officer: Caroline Durham, CPA
Caroline has been the CFO at Hospice of Alamance Caswell since 2005 following a career in private accounting including a partnership at a local accounting firm. She has been a certified public accountant since 1995 and is a graduate of Wake Forest University.
Director of Kids Path, Bereavement Counseling and Chaplaincy: Patti Gasparello, MSW, LCSW
Patti was one of the founders of Hospice of Alamance County in 1979, and served as a volunteer on the Board of Directors, including its chair, for many years. She was hired as the Director of Social Work services in 1993 and has served in a variety of leadership roles since then. She holds a masters degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; her undergraduate degree was from Duke.
Director of Family Services: Gayle Scott, MSW, LCSW
Gayle has served Hospice of Alamance Caswell as a social worker and manager of social work, volunteers and integrative therapy since 1994. Gayle is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, holds a masters degree from Virginia Commonwealth, and is licensed as an LCSW by the state.
Director of Performance Improvement, Corporate Compliance and Staff Education: Angela Lloyd, BSW
Angela began her career at Hospice of Alamance Caswell in 2003 as a social worker and has progressively been promoted to her current position. Her areas of responsibility range across the agency and all departments, including continual performance improvement and compliance with regulations. Angela is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Director of Human Resources: Manuela Espinosa, PHR
Manuela has had an extensive career in human resource management and brought those skills to Hospice of Alamance Caswell in 2008. She is responsible for all personnel issues, policies, hiring and staff retention efforts, workers comp and related areas. She is a diplomate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York.
LifePath Program Manager: Cheryl Rodrigues, RN
Cheryl has had a long-time nursing career stretching back to the 1990’s, including work in the Emergency Department at Alamance Regional and with Duke LifeFlight. She started with LifePath in 2007 as an RN case manager, and was promoted to the hospital nurse liaison position in 2010 before her most recent promotion to the LifePath Manager position in 2014. Cheryl holds several certifications and instructor credentials in a variety of nursing areas; she’s a graduate of the nursing program at Alamance Community College.
Palliative Care Medical Director: Dr. Nancy Phifer, CHPM
Dr. Phifer has been part of the palliative care team since 2011, and manages the program’s activities. She attended medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and did her residency at Moses Cone Hospital. She is board certified in internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. Her career has included private practice, teaching, and managing the residency program at Moses Cone.
Director of Facility Services: Sharon Terrell
Sharon came to Hospice of Alamance Caswell in 2001 with extensive facility management experience in private industry and has assumed progressively increased responsibilities since then. She currently manages all safety initiatives and programs, and supervises housekeeping, grounds keeping, maintenance and related duties. Sharon is a graduate of Alamance Community College.
Director of Information Technology: Kenneth Allred
Kenneth began with Hospice of Alamance Caswell in 2009 following a career in IT management in the financial services industry. He is responsible for oversight of all desktops, field laptops, servers, phone systems, cellphones, data storage and integrity, encryption and other related duties. Kenneth is a graduate of the computer technology program at Alamance Community College.
